Britten's War Requiem

Postby racheps » Wed Mar 10, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi all

Just plugging a concert I will be singing in at the end of this month.

London Concert Choir is performing Britten's War Requiem,
Wednesday 31st March, 8pm, Barbican Hall, Silk Street, EC2.

Janice Watson: Soprano
Adrian Thompson: Tenor
Roderick Williams: Baritone

with Southbank Sinfonia

Tickets £26, £22, £18, £13, £7 available from the box office on 020 7638 8891 or from
http://www.barbican.org.uk

Part of the reason why this will be such a good concert is the soloists we are performing with. Roderick Williams has recently been described as ‘Britain’s best Baritone’ by Opera Magazine; he performs at the Royal Opera House and has won critical acclaim for his recordings. Janice Watson (the Soprano) came to prominence as the winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award and has made numerous recordings of opera and oratorio, whilst performing across the world with the world’s best orchestras. Adrian Thompson is not only a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama but is known for his work and performance of Britten. He has performed at the worlds greatest opera festivals and we are honoured to have him as our Tenor.

You may have studied WW1 poetry at school, and if so will undoubtedly know the poems of Wilfred Owen. Britten uses Owen’s poems throughout the Requiem and it’s the combination of the poems with the music that makes the Requiem famous as one of the most moving pieces of the last century.

I hope that some of you can make it!

That's great...
If you would prefer something a little lighter, we are also performing a programme of choral works by Italian composers at St Martin-in-the-fields on Friday 21st May, 7:30pm. Tickets for that are available from www.smitf.org
